Bring a number from another provider
Move a WhatsApp Business API number you already run at another provider onto WASync with the in-app wizard, and keep your reputation with Meta.
Already using the WhatsApp Business API somewhere else, for example Gupshup, 360dialog, Twilio or Wati? You can move that number to WASync (sold as WABA) and keep your reputation with Meta. Your old provider keeps working right up to the final step, so there is no gap in service until you switch over.
The wizard is called Bring a number. Open it from the menu of a WABA connection in the WASync app, under Connections.
What comes with you, what stays behind
| Comes with you | Stays behind |
|---|---|
| Your display name | Chat history |
| Quality rating | Analytics and insights |
| Official Business Account status | Rejected, pending or low-quality templates |
| Messaging limits | |
| Approved, high-quality message templates (Meta copies them across) |
Because the display name comes across with the number, there is nothing to re-enter and no new name review.
Before you start
- Switch off two-step verification for the number at your current provider. Meta refuses the move while it is on, and this is by far the most common reason a migration fails. In Business Manager: WhatsApp Manager, Phone numbers, Two-step verification, Turn off. Meta emails a confirmation link that must be clicked before it takes effect.
- Your business must be verified with Meta, and the WhatsApp Business Account the number moves into must be in good standing.
- You need to be able to receive a 6-digit code on the number, by SMS or by voice call.
Steps
-
Intro. Read what comes with you and what stays behind, then continue.
-
Number. Pick the country and enter the phone number exactly as it runs at your current provider, without the country code and without a leading 0. You type the same number again in Meta's window at the last step. Here it is only used to run the checks.
-
Checks. WASync reads your Meta business and WhatsApp Business Account (read-only, nothing is changed) and reports five checks:
- Your business is verified with Meta.
- The destination WhatsApp Business Account is in good standing.
- Your account has room for another number. Meta does not publish the maximum, so WASync shows how many numbers the account has and you confirm the rest yourself.
- The number is not already on this account.
- Two-step verification is switched off at your current provider. Only you can confirm this, so you tick a box.
You can continue only when no check fails and the box is ticked. Fix any failing check, then run the checks again.
-
Meta's window. Click Open Meta sign-up. The move happens in Meta's own window, which WASync cannot fill in for you. Choose:
- Your existing Meta Business portfolio, the one that owns the number today. Do not create a new one.
- Create a new WhatsApp Business Account. Meta always builds a fresh account for a number arriving from another provider. Your old account cannot be reused, and that is expected.
- Enter your existing number, exactly as checked. Meta warns that it is already registered with another provider. Continue past it.
- Verify with the code Meta sends, by SMS or voice call, and enter the 6-digit code.
When setup finishes, close the window if it stays open. The move finalizes in WASync automatically.
-
Done. The number now runs on WASync.
After the move
- Meta created a new WhatsApp Business Account for the number under WASync and registered it for sending. Your old provider no longer sends or receives on it.
- Templates can take up to 24 hours to show a quality rating again, and may read as unrated until then. Templates that were rejected, pending or low-quality did not come across. Create them again under Templates.
- WASync re-registers the number with a two-step verification PIN, because you had to switch it off to move. Save the PIN. You need it if you ever move the number again. It is always under Connections, PIN.
- Your old provider's dashboard shows the number as migrated and its channel is dead. Send and receive a real message in WASync first, and cancel the old subscription only once messaging works.
Troubleshooting
Do not retry blindly
Meta locks a number for 72 hours after 10 failed attempts. Continue only when every check passes. If Meta refuses in its own window, read its message and fix the cause before trying again.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Business verification is pending or not verified | Complete verification in Business Manager, Business settings, Security centre, or wait for Meta to finish the review. The wizard does not start the move until this check passes. |
| The account is not in good standing | Resolve the restriction on that WhatsApp Business Account first. Moving a healthy number into it does not lift the restriction. |
| The number is already attached to this account | There is nothing to migrate. Use the connection it belongs to. |
| Room for another number cannot be confirmed | If Meta rejects the move because the account is full, delete a number you no longer use in WhatsApp Manager, Phone numbers, or migrate into a different account. |
| WASync could not reach Meta | Retry in a minute. If it keeps failing, reconnect the WhatsApp Business Account and try again. |
| Meta refuses the move | The usual cause is two-step verification still on at the old provider, or the confirmation email not yet clicked. |
Billing
WASync's licence for the number is unchanged by the move. Meta's own message charges are billed by Meta per WhatsApp Business Account, and the move creates a new account for the number: open WhatsApp Manager, Billing & payments, for the new account and make sure it has a payment method before you send business-initiated messages. See Licences & trial.
